Kantha is a type of embroidery craft most popularly practiced in West Bengal, Tripura, and Odisha. Kantha means 'throat' and is associated with Lord Shiva of Hindu Mythology.

The beauty of this type of stitch is in its simplicity. Typically only a 'running' stitch, it uses imagery that depicts birds, animals, folk scenes, fishes, and livelihood for the people.
